Stylized Meadows Open-World Environment

A lot of people pointed out the similarity to Genshin Impact. The project was started out a few months ago before I even knew about the existence of the game. I did install it a few days ago and there is a similarity but it's purely accidental, not that it bothers me since I love the artstyle of Genshin impact :)

This project is a culmination of everything I've learned from my previous ones. This was made as a way to challenge myself to make environment suitable for large scale open worlds.
Most assets are low poly and use tiling textures that were made in Substance Designer.

The map shown here is about 2x2 KM and by using Octahedral Impostors for the foliage I managed to populate the entire map with trees and keep the frame-rate close to 60fps at 4K on my machine.

I've used only a few materials and a lot of material instances so it's really easy to customize the entire color palette of the environment.
The terrain was textured using a custom made auto-tiling material that changes the texture based on the slope and angle of the terrain.

Waterfall was made using a series of animated materials and mesh displacement.
